After the small “Corona dent” in the participant statistics, the 22nd Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon will move the masses once more on April 7th. Before tomorrow’s closing date, the organizers are registering a large turnout. “New entries come in almost every minute and the interest exceeds our expectations,” says OK boss Günther Weidlinger.
The country’s largest running event is getting a lot of tailwind from nature’s current “spring awakening”. Weidlinger: “The warmer temperatures have encouraged many people to lace up their running shoes once more. We can also feel that in the entries.” The fact that the bar has been lowered a little on the marathon weekend and that a five-kilometer competition is being offered for the first time this year will of course benefit many amateur athletes who want to take part in this running festival in Linz without having to push their physical limits. For many active participants, the Generali 5K will be more of a pleasure project under the Olympic motto “Being there is everything” than a race.
The international class will also join the masses at the Linz Marathon. Oberbank General Director Franz Gasselsberger has declared the Halali on the course record (2:06:13 hours), Weidlinger will soon present a strong group of “hunters” from the expanded marathon world class.
If you want to take part in one of the five running competitions (marathon, half marathon, quarter marathon, five-kilometer run, relay marathon) on April 7th, you should hurry up. Registration closes tomorrow. Late entries are possible, but cost extra. The ÖGK Junior Marathon on April 6th is already fully booked.
