[L’instant tech] Origins, a research program on the origins of life with multiple industrial benefits

Understanding the origin of life, detecting stars similar to Earth… Monday September 18, the CNRS officially launched the programme Origins, financed to the tune of 45.5 million euros for a period of seven years. This priority research program and equipment (PEPR), which is part of the France 2030 plan, “aims to develop seventeen new tools» useful for research but also for industrial activity, explains Alessandro Morbidelli, research director at the CNRS specializing in astronomy and planetology. The expected innovations must raise “technological barriers» in order to facilitate both the study of exoplanets and that of the internal dynamics of the Earth, including the analysis of samples of matter from the solar system. But also the transition between organic chemistry and living organisms, the development of computing for digital simulations and even robotics.
