Today marks a new beginning for Linkin Park. For a long time, it seemed that the unfortunate end of Chester Bennington also sealed the band’s fate. However, Mike Shinoda and co. always left the door ajar and looked for a way to do the band name full justice with a new path that they attempted to take. The rumours of a new singer were always within reach, although the legendary nu-metal band opted for a slightly less obvious name. Emily Armstrong, also the front woman of Dead Sara, will now take her place behind the microphone and must try to fill the impossible void. Incidentally, drummer Rob Bourdon opted for a life without Linkin Park and as a result the band has a drastically changed line-up. On 15 November, a very first album in a new formation will be released with the name From ZeroThe new single “The Emptiness Machine” already gives a first clear picture of what we can expect.

Linkin Park starts from scratch and you can take that literally. They don’t feel like making comparisons with the past, so it’s all the better to approach the new era with a fresh perspective. The start of “The Emptiness Machine” feels reasonably familiar and is kicked off by Mike Shinoda himself. In his typical style, he drives towards a chorus, which initially doesn’t explode in your ear canal in full regalia. That happens right after and is in a way the red carpet for Emily Armstrong. With her voice she already knows how to make an impression and she fits in perfectly with the energy that the song aims for. The raw character in her voice will undoubtedly be appreciated by fans of Linkin Park. Let’s give this new start of Linkin Park a chance, the beginning is certainly not bad.
