Line 96 is sadly known: the show On n’est pas des pigeons even awarded it the prize for champion of delays a few months ago.

For the Navetteurs.be association too, it is the worst train line. “Over a month and a half, if we count the trains during peak hours, we had accumulated 850 minutes of delay on journeys which last around an hour, an hour ten”. That’s 14 hours late in barely a month and a half, according to the commuters’ association! Enough is enough. Federal MP Eric Thiébaut, himself a commuter, has already questioned the Minister of Mobility on several occasions. “Recurring delays, canceled trains, a lack of seats during peak hours or even the presence of old, uncomfortable cars… The hiccups are multiplying once more on line 96 Quiévrain-Mons-Brussels,” indicates the MP.

“In recent weeks, trains have broken down several times in the middle of the fields. Since the start of the school year, I have been stopped every day by commuters who express their anger and distress! “, he explains, disappointed.

A glimmer of hope

And continued: “I have repeatedly denounced these problems to the Federal Minister of Mobility. A glimmer of hope seemed to exist following the announcement of a budget of 55 million euros which would be invested on lines 96 and 97 for the period 2022-2024. Unfortunately, it is clear that the situation is still not improving,” complains Eric Thiébaut.

“Commuters who take the train to Boussu, Hainin, Thulin and Quiévrain are often stuck at Saint-Ghislain station following the outright cancellation of trains at the end of the day. They must therefore quickly find alternative solutions to return home.”

The mayor of Hensies goes even further: “Today, I find myself wondering if the SNCB is not deliberately allowing the connection between Quiévrain and Saint-Ghislain to deteriorate! »

He therefore intends to once once more question the Minister of Mobility in the federal parliament to obtain explanations.

A meeting is also planned for September 23 at 9 a.m., at the Lido hotel in Mons, with commuters and representatives of Infabel, SNCB and the minister, announces the association Navetteurs.be.

We contacted SNCB this Tuesday to find out more, without success.
