[L’industrie c’est fou] To become a real star, a moon meteorite handbag

Astronomy, fashion and archeology lovers, Coperni has thought of you! The French house, founded in 2013 by designer duo Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant, has created a handbag encrusted with real fragments of lunar meteorites. Named “Mini Meteorite Swipe Bag”, it was presented during the fall-winter 2023-2024 fashion shows of Paris Fashion Week.

Handcrafted in the Semar factory in Italy, the examples are made from extracts of meteorites taken from various places around the world where they crashed. Enough to help the owners of this precious object to feel a little more unique. For example, the satchel shown in the official Coperni photo was made from a fragment of the Moon that fell to Earth around 55,000 years ago. This one has been certified 100% authentic by Theatrum Mundi, an Italian art gallery that has lunar rocks in its collection.

Sale price: 40,000 euros

The small handbag (9 x 12 x 23 centimeters) is presented in a limited edition. Those who wish to obtain it will have to wait six weeks before receiving it, the time of its manufacture (the first will be dispatched on April 5), and above all pay a sum of 40,000 euros! An exorbitant amount for a 1.8 kilo handbag, non-refundable and worthy of a satchel that our prehistoric ancestors might have carried… But Coperni’s creativity has no limits when it comes to stand out.

At the beginning of March, the brand had invited Boston Dynamics dog robots to parade on its podium alongside its top models. In September 2022, she sprayed a dress on the naked body of model Bella Hadid with an aerosol can. Another idea from Coperni: the “drive in” fashion show. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the house, which might not organize a show in public, presented its collection in front of spectators confined to their cars.
