Political Crossroads
The arrival of their child coincides with a significant downturn in Lindner’s political trajectory. Recent months have been particularly challenging for the free Democratic Party (FDP), with the party failing to secure enough votes (4.3 percent) in the early Bundestag election in February to enter the Bundestag.
Adding to the strain, on November 6, 2024, Lindner was released from his position as Federal Minister of Finance by Chancellor Olaf Scholz, following the break of the Traffic Light coalition consisting of the SPD, Greens, and FDP. Lindner has since announced his withdrawal from politics, with a new FDP board set to be elected at a federal party conference in Berlin in mid-May.
