Venezuelan Linda Pérez was unable to reach the podium in the para-athletics tournament at the Paris 2024 Games, after finishing in fourth place in the Grand Final of the women’s 100 meters (m) flat, category T11 (visually impaired), which took place this Tuesday in Saint-Denis, France.

Pérez, winner of a gold medal in the same event during the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and who was guided by Álvaro Cassiani, stopped the clocks at 12 seconds and 27 hundredths (12.27).

She was left out of a list of honours that was headed by Brazilian Jerusa Gerber Dos Santos, who crossed the finish line in a time of 11.83.

China’s Cuiqing Liu came in second, stopping the clock at 12.04. Brazil’s Lorena Salvatini Spoladore finished third after completing the competition in 12.14.

Despite not winning any medals, Pérez was able to claim a Paralympic diploma at the world competition that will take place next weekend on French soil.

Another highlight

Another who stood out for representing Venezuela in para-athletics was Alejandra Pérez, who finished fourth in the decisive phase of the 400 m flat, class T12 (visually impaired), in the women’s category, in which she was guided by Markinson Manzanilla and recorded 56.64. This allowed her to obtain a certification.

Leonela Vera also stood out, taking home a Paralympic diploma by finishing fifth in the final of the 400m flat, T20 version (athletes with intellectual disabilities), with a time of 57.18.

Lisbeli Vera was unlucky on the day, as she suffered an injury in the final stage of the 100m flat race, category T47 (for athletes with limited arm movement or loss of limbs), and did not complete the course, which is why she was disqualified. This frustrated her goal of being a double medallist in Paris 2024, as she obtained a silver medal at the weekend in the 400m flat race.
