Venezuela’s Linda Pérez kept her dream of winning a medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games alive by advancing to the final of the women’s 100m flat, T11 category (visually impaired) on Monday.
The Zulian, winner of a gold medal at Tokyo 2020 – an event held in 2021 due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic – reached her pass to the decisive stage by finishing third in the second qualifying heat held at the Stade de France, located in Saint-Denis.
Accompanied by her guide Álvaro Cassiani, the native crossed the finish line in a time of 12 seconds and 19 hundredths (12.19) to seal her passport to the decisive stage.
Winner of the series
The winner of the qualifying round was Brazilian Gerusa Gerber Dos Santos, who set a world record by stopping the clocks at 11.80.
China’s Cuiqing Liu finished second, clocking 12.19. Both she and Gerber Dos Santos also made it to the finals of the women’s paraathletics event.
The race for the awards will take place on Tuesday, in the same bullring in Saint-Denis.
