As the fifth opera production in a discography consisting of more than 40 CDs, the L’Orfeo Baroque Orchestra, conducted as usual and authentically felt by Michi Gaigg, presents home listeners with a precious, rare luxury jewel of music history written by Joseph Haydn.

It is the recording of the three-act Turkish opera “L’incontro improvviso” in the version of the staged production of the donauFESTWOCHEN in Strudengau from 2019. The performers are available convincingly according to the highest selection criteria, the technology flawlessly conjures up a wonderful sound spectrum of early music.

The themes repeat themselves in history at the time of the Enlightenment: love, testing of loyalty, escape, kidnapping, liberation. At the end there is also humor with exciting events. Seasoned with all the charms of life in the Seraglio.

Haydn’s music, with special instruments such as the Orfeonists for “Turkish music”, is sometimes ceremonial, strikingly Ottoman, with virtuoso passionate arias that the singers master throughout with particular dedication to identifying their roles in the special work: Bernhard Berchtold, Elisabeth Breuer, Anna Willerding, Annastina Malm, Markus Miesenberger, Rafael Fingerlos and Michael Wagner.
