Lincoln, Ford’s luxury brand, unveils the Star, an electric concept car. Behind this umpteenth SUV hides an invitation to travel in silence, calm and comfort via distinct and immersive atmospheres. An entire program.
Regarding the Lincoln Star, Ford’s luxury brand electric concept car, Joy Falotico, its president, said it was “a great example of how Lincoln was redefining luxury to become a place of sanctuary for customers“. That says a lot regarding the expectations of the American brand. It plans to launch four 100% electric models by 2026 and aims to have 50% of its sales in EVs by the middle of the decade.
The Lincoln Star is a good big SUV that looks a lot like a Faraday Future, whose XXL cabin offers maximum space, calm and comfort to its occupants. It is also thanks to electrification that “many traditional vehicle design constraints have been removed“, said Anthony Lo, director of design at Ford Motor Company. He adds that this allowed “reimagining what a vehicle can be“, which some manufacturers seem to have forgotten to integrate when designing their electric vehicles. One thinks in particular of the space freed up by the absence of a transmission tunnel, not exploited enough as it should be.
Moreover, it is enough to see the astonishing possibilities of this Lincoln Star to realize that the designers have let go: carriage doors, trunk at the front which opens like a drawer or engine cover which unfolds upwards. .
The interior is not to be outdone with a triptych composed of light, sound and olfactory atmospheres such as the sound of the ocean, the scent of the sea and the radiance of the sun. A total of three atmospheres (Coastal Morning, Mindful Vitality et Evening Chill) are offered on this Lincoln Star. Passengers need to feel at home, protected in a rolling cocoon, isolated from the fury of the outside world.
On the other hand, if the emphasis has been placed on the interior, no information is available concerning the powertrain (number of electric motors, power delivered, torque, battery capacity, autonomy).
This style exercise is not intended to become reality, but it allows Lincoln to give its vision of electrification for a luxury brand, namely the philosophy of “Quiet Flight“, or quiet trip in French. Clearly, the brand’s customers will continue to travel on a four-wheeled vehicle offering comfort and silence.
We can’t wait to see the first real electric Lincoln!
