LINARES (JAEN), 23 (EUROPA PRESS)

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinical Management Unit of the Hospital San Agustín, in Linares (Jaén), has a new ultrasound machine, which will allow professionals to improve and develop new interventional treatments in musculoskeletal pathologies and in the approach to pain .

This equipment, which has involved an investment of 30,000 euros, speeds up the acquisition of images, with greater penetration, contrast resolution and detail enhancement, as reported by the Andalusian Government on Wednesday.

It also allows examinations of different parts of the body, with specific calculations for each application, using various types of broadband and multifrequency transducers.

Interventional techniques in rehabilitation constitute a fundamental element for the specialty and include all those minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic methods, basically applicable to the treatment of pain, musculoskeletal and neurological pathology.

“The introduction of ultrasound in the specialty of Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine has implemented the concept of high resolution in our consultations, allowing us a quick diagnostic confirmation of the clinically evaluated pathology and the application of a specific and effective therapy. In addition, it has notably favored the increase in therapeutic material”, explained the head of this Unit’s service, Juan Carlos Fernández.

In this way, according to the specialist, the approach to pain, musculoskeletal and neurological pathologies that have an impact on improving the quality of life of the patient is encouraged.

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinical Management Unit provides care coverage to a population of more than 126,000 inhabitants dependent on the North Jaén Health Management Area (AGS).

During the year 2021, 8,947 new patients were attended in the Locomotor Apparatus consultations, coming from the different Primary Care units of the Jaén Norte Health Management Area; mostly related to musculoskeletal pathology and chronic pain.

“2,385 patients sent from the different Specialized Care units and services of our Hospital also received care, in which attention to pathologies related to orthopedic surgery and traumatology, neurological and pediatric diseases stands out”, Fernández pointed out.
