All ages, all genders, all sexualities, whether you feel LGBTQIA+ or just supportive were present in the ranks of this Limoges Pride March. Some parents even accompany their children, like Héloïse who came with her 15-year-old daughter. “Now, they are more and more fulfilled, they no longer need to hide and I find that great. I wish it would have been the same at our age.” A warm and festive atmosphere, with a message that is as important as ever.

When we see how politics is completely drifting, clearly now more than ever we need to defend what we are, just what we are!

There is still a lot of homophobia in Limoges, recalls a participant, even this morning while walking in the street dressed as I am, we had comments… That’s why it’s important, the Marche des pride“.

For Angel, event coordinator, this 2023 edition is a success: “There are a little more than last year, despite the heat, that’s what we wanted so it’s very good, it proves that the LGBTQIA+ community is here in force“.

Before departure, numerous associations such as The shelter, family planning or Afflicted by the Fringe offered information stands to the public at Place de la Motte. As during the first edition in 2022 which brought together more than 2,000 people, many political figures spoke.

The first Pride March in Limousin took place in Guéret en Creuse in 2021 with participants from Creuse, but also from Limoges, Montluçon, Clermont-Ferrand and Poitiers. At the time, its organizer Vincent congratulated himself “to see that there are so many people and so much joy and people who feel happy and happy to be there“. The fight against homophobia remains more necessary than ever while homophobic violence increased by 28% in 2022 at the national level.
