Lilliputbahn locomotive derailed in Vienna’s Prater – was it sabotage?

A Liliputbahn locomotive derailed and overturned in Vienna’s Prater on Sunday followingnoon. The wagons remained upright and all passengers and the train driver were therefore uninjured, said Philipp Pertl, spokesman for the operating company “Lilis Welt”, to the APA. The company suspects an act of sabotage behind the incident and has filed a complaint once morest unknown persons.

The tracks of the Liliputbahn are checked daily, emphasized Pertl. They had been driving all week without incident, so the incident on Sunday came as a surprise. Then employees discovered strange objects at the scene of the accident – the track that runs behind the well-known Luftburg restaurant, a much-frequented section of the Prater.

“We found stones and several pieces of metal. I cannot rule out that these objects were placed on the tracks. It might be an act of sabotage,” said Pertl.

Fortunately, no one was hurt. The Liliputbahn was able to start operating once more in the followingnoon.
