The origins
Thematic club of the Les Places tertiaires association, Lille Financial Place has existed since 1975. And as is often the case when it comes to promoting regional economic activities, we find at the origins of the association Bruno Bonduelle, former president of the Chamber of Commerce, died in 2022. “ He said to himself: there is a club for finance, one for legal and there are plenty of value-added professions and services, explains Grégory Sanson, president of Lille Place Financière and CEO of the Bonduelle food group. If we want to create a dynamic in the territory, if we want to have the decision-makers, that is to say those who place the order and who initiate the wealth, we must have a high-level service environment. Why, then, not have an association that is much broader? So that’s what he did. »
The club
« Our vocation is, on the one hand, to provide information to economic players and to show them how finance contributes to their development. And, on the other hand, to highlight the local offer of value-added services in financial matters since we have the unfortunate reflex, myself included at Bonduelle from time to time, of going to Paris to find what we find in the region very competently », continues the president. We understand, it is therefore a question of helping regional companies in the sector to develop, by highlighting the offer and creating the conditions for the meeting between the service offer and the companies concerned. Outreach, promotion and also information, in order to demystify a sector frequently accused of all evils.
Actions
« We have very, very good schools. How to retain students in the region? One of the essential factors is alternation. 50% of contracts become permanent contracts. Once the person has studied and is anchored in the region, we can imagine that they will make their career there. » Based on this observation, Lille Place Financière launched the Adopte un alternant event in March 2020, a unique concept of Job dating between students and employers, via a platform, in order to “ nourish the financial center with skills », rejoices Grégory Sanson, himself a fan of alternation within his teams at Bonduelle.
The club is also very active in organizing events around finance: the Grand Prix de l’Innovation, the Victoire des Autodidactes – which came back to life on December 14 in Lille (as well as in Bordeaux, Lyon and Toulouse) at the instigation of Lille Place Financière, the Sustainable Finance Mornings (How to finance the transition, insure against climate change, etc.) or even the financial center dinner. A directory of financial services – Le Book – published every two years, with the 300 regional players in banking and insurance, is also very useful for students. A fair return for Grégory Sanson who praises the region’s ability to regenerate. Lille Place Financière has 80 members and the club is supported by the Region, the CCI and the MEL.

**Interview with Grégory Sanson, President of Lille Place Financière**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Grégory. To start, can you tell us more about the origins of Lille Place Financière and its founding vision?
**Grégory Sanson:** Thank you for having me! Lille Place Financière was established in 1975, largely inspired by Bruno Bonduelle, former president of the Chamber of Commerce. He recognized the need for a broader association that encompassed various value-added professions, not just finance and legal aspects. The aim was to create a vibrant ecosystem that brings together decision-makers and fosters regional economic activity. He believed that by doing so, we could enhance our service environment and ultimately drive local wealth.
**Editor:** That’s fascinating! How does Lille Place Financière contribute to the local economy today?
**Grégory Sanson:** Our primary mission is twofold. First, we prioritize providing valuable information to economic players about how finance can aid their growth. Second, we promote the regional financial services available right here, often overlooked in favor of services based in Paris. We work to connect local companies with these services, aiming to demystify the finance sector and facilitate collaborations that can drive development.
**Editor:** It sounds like you’re also focused on youth engagement and the future workforce. Can you elaborate on your initiatives in this area?
**Grégory Sanson:** Absolutely! We recognize that retaining talent in the region is crucial. One of our key initiatives is the “Adopte un alternant” event, launched in March 2020. It’s a unique job dating concept that aims to connect students with local companies offering apprenticeship contracts. Given that 50% of these contracts lead to permanent positions, we believe that fostering these connections can help students establish their careers right here in Lille.
**Editor:** It’s great to hear how you’re bridging education and industry. What do you see as the future for Lille Place Financière and the regional economy?
**Grégory Sanson:** I envision a thriving financial ecosystem where local companies are supported by competent services right at their doorstep, reducing the need to look elsewhere. By continuously advocating for our local talent and resources, we aim to create a sustainable and prosperous future for Lille and its economic landscape. Together, we can promote the immense value our region has to offer!
**Editor:** Thank you, Grégory, for your insights and for the impactful work that Lille Place Financière is doing in the region.
