Austria’s Lil Zoo won the bronze medal in breaking at the European Games in Poland. The 29-year-old was promoted to the quarter-finals in Nowy Sacz on Tuesday thanks to a thigh muscle injury suffered by his French opponent Lagaet and then lost 3-0 to Dutchman Menno in the semi-finals. In the battle for bronze, Lil Zoo defeated Dutchman Lee 2-1.
After that, his record was mixed. “I’m not 100% satisfied because I was a bit tired and mightn’t do my best. The event was great, the opponents were very strong. Next time I want to do even better,” said Lil Zoo.
The native Moroccan, who is called Fouad Ambelj apart from his scene name and lives in Tyrol, won all three preliminary round battles on Monday. Austria holds 13 medals at the European Games – five gold, two silver and six bronze.
The trend sport of breaking will be the focus of attention for the first time at the Olympic Games in Paris next year. The winners of the European Games for women – India from the Netherlands – and men – Dany from France – each received a starting place for the games. Lil Zoo also really wants to go to Paris. “It is and will always be my big dream to start for Austria at the Olympic Games. I believe in it and will now work even harder to achieve this goal.”
