Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN)–Indian wildlife photographer Sarosh Lodhi has documented many wonderful moments during his first visit to the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. But what made him most excited was taking a specific photo.
While observing a herd of zebras, Lodhi, who has been photographing wildlife for 25 years, snapped a photo that baffled many people online.
In the right place.. at the right time
In an interview with CNN Arabic, Lodhi said, “I came across a herd of zebras grazing in the grasslands. While I was photographing them, I noticed two of them getting close to each other.”
Since they were in opposite directions, the photographer kept his lens on them, anticipating an interaction between the two animals.
“I was able to see them overlap each other, creating an optical illusion,” the Indian photographer added.
The animal in the foreground can hardly be identified, according to Lodhi, co-founder of the environmental group CLaW.
The photographer confirmed, “I was more excited to take this photo than the hunting photos, and the other great scenes I’ve seen there.”
The Indian photographer indicated that the photo became very popular on the Internet, and many people contacted him to find out which of the two animals was in the foreground at the moment of its capture.
When asked regarding it, Lodhi replied, “(The animal) to the left of the tire is the one in the front, but wait, is it really the one to the left?”
The photographer explained that he wanted to keep the answer to himself in order to maintain the enthusiasm of his audience, as he put it.
