Ligue 2: clear winner of Quevilly (3-0), Paris FC consolidates its 2nd place

A stadium where you can hear the cries of the players, their exchanges and the impacts… It felt like we were back to last season. But this hushed context behind closed doors did not trouble Paris FC, which continued its good march forward with an unbeaten streak now extended to 12 games (9 wins, 3 draws) once morest Quevilly. In the classification, the accounting operation is interesting. Still 2nd one point behind Toulouse, Paris FC is three points ahead of Sochaux (3rd) who will come to Charléty in 15 days for a big shock, and five over AC Ajaccio (4th).

What you must remember

For the first of its three games behind closed doors, Paris FC won its biggest success of the season at home. Deprived of his three right-backs (Bernauer, Chergui, Campanini), Thierry Laurey had chosen to shift defender Axel Bamba. Posted in the street, outside the Charléty stadium where they might just see a (very) small part of the field, Paris FC supporters were able to quickly make themselves heard and light smoke bombs.

From the corner of the surface, Lamine Gueye sends a curling shot that clears the top corner of Lejeune (1-0, 7th). On loan from Metz (L1), the 24-year-old Senegalese striker, who came into play on Tuesday once morest AC Ajaccio, celebrates his first tenure with Paris FC in the most beautiful way. If Vincent Demarconnay is once more decisive on an acceleration from Nazon (24th) when his team lets QRM play a little too much, Julien Lopez is very close to scoring his first goal of the season on a magnificent throw-in from Khalid Boutaïb (28th) . But Morgan Guilavogui, on fire since his return from CAN, scored his 4th goal in 3 games, the 3rd from a penalty (2-0, 42nd). He brings his total to ten goals.

On a second penalty following a second hand in the box, following Gueye, it was the turn of the other offensive rookie of the transfer window, Khalid Boutaïb, to unlock his counter with Paris FC (3-0, 58th). A first goal for his first match at the Charléty stadium when he had never managed to score in 31 home games with Le Havre at the Océane stadium. Alamami Gory can even afford to miss a double face-to-face with Lejeune (85th). Faced with its former coach Fabien Mercadal (2017-2018 season), Paris FC won a clear, clean and flawless success. At the end of the match, the players climbed the stairs to the stand behind the goal to share it with their supporters, outside the Charléty stadium.

Player: Lamine Gueye

The 23-year-old Senegalese striker, on loan from Metz, was quick to mark his territory with a sumptuous curling strike (7th). The right winger was able to show his speed qualities. He had already signed at the PFC in October 2020 but his contract might not be approved. But Thierry Laurey has recovered a player who discovered Ligue 1 in the meantime with Metz even if he was less used since the start of this season by Frédéric Antonetti (14 games, 4 goals).

The number: 150

Vincent Demarconnay played his 150 L2 match (149 with PFC, one with Le Mans) once morest QRM. For the 38-year-old goalkeeper, it was the 322nd match under the colors of Paris FC where he is the most capped player in history.

The reaction

“We’re not geniuses, we’re not always sparkling, but we’re efficient. That’s what interests me. Even if we weren’t flamboyant, we were serious defensively. We had some difficulty getting chances, 3-0, the score is a bit harsh for Quevilly. But we are not going to be choosy. We are on an interesting series and a good dynamic. In December, we did well because we didn’t concede. At the moment, we are efficient, we know we can score at any time and we concede fewer goals. This is a good thing. There is a very good state of mind, we can make jokes between us but above all there is a lot of rigor with the boys who work for the team. Gueye and Boutaïb scored their first goal with us, it’s good for their confidence. We have rebalanced the squad and we know that now we can play at the top of the table. The championship is still long, we will make a point following Toulouse at the end of March. » Thierry Laurey, Paris FC coach
