The Vienna Danube Tower is a popular destination and attracts around 42,000 visitors every year. An express lift takes you to a height of 160 meters, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of Vienna from the tower cafe. Normally, the technical rotation allows for a 360 degree panoramic view due to the change of perspective.

During a strong thunderstorm three weeks ago, the gear mechanism of the tower cafe was damaged, according to ORF, which means that the technical system has now suffered irreparable damage. Due to the advanced age of the technical system, specific spare parts are no longer available today.

Searching for offers and manufacturing a new drive will take some time. According to the ORF report, it is still uncertain when the operation of the rotating mechanism can be resumed.
