It was not enough to have suffered with the lockdowns occurred in recent months in China, now Apple may also face problems in India.
That’s because, last Monday (2/27), there was a big fire in a factory of Foxlinkwhich is the main supplier of cabos Lightning for Apple. The incident took place in the south of the country, in Andhra Pradesh, and part of the building collapsed, as reported by the Archyde.com.
Fortunately, there were no casualties, but J Ramanaiah, leader of the Tirupati district fire department, said the fire had damaged regarding 50% of the factory’s machinery, causing an estimated loss of approximately 1 billion rupees (approximately R$63 million), as communicated by management.
According to factory workers, the fire would have started during the lunch break and was “uncontrollable”. Ramanaiah said the fire would have taken a long time to contain due to faulty security systems, including smoke detectors, sprinklers and hydrants.
Because of the losses, the Archyde.com revealed yesterday that the factory will hardly return to work before two months. One source even claimed that it would be a key supplier for Apple in the country and that “there might be potential disruptions in the supply chain for iPhones made in India.”
Neither Apple nor Foxlink have commented on the case, but Apple representatives would have visited the meeting facilities yesterday.
