LIGHT SPACE – “Here” – mica

A musical experience of a different kind, profound, mysterious and in the sound far from the usual, that’s exactly what the trio LICHTE RAUM brings to the ear on their debut album “Hier” (iapetus).

Well, one thing can definitely be said regarding this album, the musical draft that is presented on this reveals itself to be a bit different than what you are used to. The Austro-Danish trio LIGHT SPACE creates a sound on his debut album that is difficult to name exactly, because none of the usual stylistic attributions really apply to it. Erik Emil Eskildsen (touch guitar, electronics), Christina Ruf (e-cello, electronics) and Tobias Leibetseder (voice, electronics) realize their very own musical ideas on “Hier” and bring pieces to the audience that are more than constantly changing atmospheric Sound states can be described, because as numbers of conventional structure and format.

The music of light space is of a minimalist, floating and experimental character, it forms slowly but steadily, takes up space completely and fills it with an incredible amount of atmosphere. The interesting thing regarding the pieces by light space is that they reach far into the depths, yet appear light in a strange way, disturbing, as well as attracting each other with magical power. Mysterious, spherical soundscapes and subtle electronic gimmicks reign on “Hier”, from which an imploring, lamenting voice rises once more and once more and leads the events into other emotional dimensions once more and once more. There are hardly any melodies, and if they do, they are hidden somewhere in the background or in a repetitive, minimalist form over individual tones.

With “Hier”, Erik Emil Eskildsen, Christina Ruf and Tobias Leibetseder deliver an album that you have to give yourself time to listen to to fully understand it. But if you get involved with the sounds of this trio and immerse yourself in their musical world, a really exciting and very special listening experience opens up.
