Light of life on a planet other than Earth

Earth’s neighboring planet has long been thought to be unsuitable for life, but now traces of an important gas have been found in its deep clouds that could be a sign of life.

This planet is so hot that it is also called a hot house and it gets acid rain. In this context, telescopes located in Hawaii and Chile have seen signs of phosphine gas in the deep clouds of Venus, which suggests that there may be strange microcosms there.

Phosphine gas is either made in the laboratory or is a component of certain animals and microorganisms. Some scientists call it part of the waste of living organisms, but other experts disagree.

It should be noted that a molecule of phosphine gas is made up of one phosphorus and three hydrogen atoms.

A report published in the weekly Nature on Monday said that although this is a very important discovery, it cannot be called the final proof of the presence of life on a planet.

Astronomers look for chemical compounds associated with life, called biosignatures, to search for life in our solar system and beyond.

Phosphine gas is also found in the floors of some ponds and in the intestines of some animals. “We looked at everything, including volcanic activity, lightning strikes and small meteorites, but none of these processes could have made such large amounts of phosphine,” says study co-author Sarah Seger.

It should be noted that there is no water on the planet Venus and the surface temperature is up to 425 degrees Celsius. This is the reason why it is also called the hell of the solar system.

About 50 km above Venus is a thick layer of carbon dioxide clouds that may contain water droplets.
