Griezmann, time to master the art of rebounding
A DAY AGO
Diego Simeone’s men quickly took the game in hand. On their first shot on target, Alvaro Morata opened the scoring with a nice shot from the left following a nice stint between Thomas Lemar and João Félix (0-1, 15th). Despite several opportunities (for Enes Ünal and Carles Aleñá in particular), with a very good Juan Iglesias on his right side, the Azulones de Getafe returned to the locker room trailing.
Trained at Real Madrid, striker Borja Mayoral notably found the crossbar on a very good cross from Iglesias shortly before the break (41st). Axel Witsel, the Belgian international from Borussia Dortmund, was very successful with Atlético for his first match with Madrid.
Griezmann has finally found his way back to the nets
After a new opportunity for Ünal, yet well served by Borja Mayoral in the area but off target (51st), Atlético Madrid finally broke away on the hour mark. On a fine pass from João Félix, Morata sent a powerful shot from the left in the right corner of David Soria (0-2, 59th). Entered shortly following, Antoine Griezmann has definitively closed the debates. In a very nice way: on a new well-felt pass from João Félix, the French striker scored with a beautiful shot placed from the left at 25 meters.
3 assists for João Félix, first goal for Griezmann in La Liga since November 28, 2021 and a goal scored once morest Cadiz: the evening was full for Koke’s teammates. Griezmann might even have scored twice from a free kick, without a very good save from David Soria at the end of additional time (90th + 3). Atlético takes 3 important points in the suburbs of Madrid, before welcoming Villarreal next Saturday.
