“Ideally, I could be somewhere else right now, catching matches, gaining experience and fighting for the number one position in the national team. This is how I’m hiding here. I’ll admit that I’m disappointed by that,” Jaroš said a few days ago in an interview with Sport.cz.

But now, by a coincidence of sad circumstances, he got his dream start in the Premier League.

In the 76th minute, Trent Alexander-Arnold returned the ball to Alisson, but he barely kicked the ball into the backfield and immediately fell to the ground. He was pounding the ground angrily and it was clear that the pain in his right thigh muscle was not going to allow him to continue.

Next came a chance for Jaroš, who was the only goalkeeper on Liverpool’s bench, as the traditional number two Caoimhin Kelleher was excused due to illness.

The twenty-three-year-old Czech representative was not bored from the first seconds. First, he successfully cleared the cross, which was sent into the box by Nathaniel Clyne. However, Jaroš scored a key save only in the 84th minute. Eberechi Eze managed to escape, but his shot was only aimed at the area where the Liverpool goalkeeper was ready. He still managed to run well in the set time and kept his first clean sheet on his debut.

Coach Arne Slot was also satisfied with the performance of the 23-year-old goalkeeper, who is aware of the strong goalkeeper trio he has at Anfield Road. “He made an excellent catch. I think it was a wonderful moment for him to make his debut for us,” smiled the coach.

Jaroš’s position in Liverpool is very complicated. In front of him, Alisson and Kelleher get space, and the Czech representative will only get into the goal sporadically.

“He had an excellent last season. He won the title and the cup in Austria and wanted to leave. We thought that in a club like this, we also need a quality third goalkeeper. That’s why we kept him and we trust him,” Slot explained to TNT Sports.

Liverpool won 1-0 at the Crystal Palace stadium, with Diego Jota netting the only goal in the ninth minute of the match. Coach Sloto’s men now have eighteen points in the table and will rest at the top of the Premier League table after the international break.
