Doctors at Khor Fakkan Hospital, affiliated with the Emirates Health Services Corporation, succeeded in saving the life of a thirty-year-old patient whose heart stopped for 45 minutes due to a coronary artery clot. He was saved following 17 electric shocks and 15 doses of adrenaline, which stimulates the heart. The doctors also succeeded in dissolving the clot by 100% using a clot dissolver. After spending 8 days in the hospital, the patient was discharged following ensuring that the arteries in his heart were free of any clots or stenosis, according to what was confirmed by the catheterization department doctors.
The patient arrived at the emergency department at Khorfakkan Hospital suffering from an irregular heartbeat. While the doctor was examining the condition, atrial fibrillation of the heart occurred, following which a state of emergency was declared, the cardiac arrest team was summoned, and cardiac resuscitation procedures were initiated, as is the practice in these cases.
The electrocardiogram performed by the doctors following the patient’s heart suddenly stopped revealed symptoms of a recent heart attack, which was treated immediately by administering a clot buster and resuscitating the heart, during which the patient received 17 electric shocks and 15 doses of adrenaline, which stimulates the heart, especially since the “sonar” examination. The heart showed a severe weakness in its efficiency, which ranged from 25 to 30%, but following stabilizing his health condition, daily follow-up, and performing an ultrasound once more, a noticeable and remarkable improvement in the heart’s efficiency was revealed, reaching 55%.
After ensuring that stability was restored to the patient’s heart, he was transferred to the intensive care department and placed on a ventilator, in preparation for his transfer to Fujairah Hospital to undergo a coronary catheterization procedure, where it was confirmed by the Fujairah Hospital team of doctors that the artery did not contain any narrowings or clots. This means that the clot dissolution process was 100% successful.
The patient was returned to Khor Fakkan Hospital to complete his treatment in the care department from which he was discharged following his health condition stabilized. He was then transferred to the internal medicine department, where he spent 8 days, including 6 days in the internal medicine department and two days in intensive care, following which he was discharged in excellent health condition.
