Thiruvananthapuram: Muhammad Salih and his uncle, the second and third accused in the murder case of radio jockey Rajesh Kumar (34), have been sentenced to life imprisonment. Thiruvananthapuram Additional Sessions Court passed the sentence. Both the accused have to pay a fine of Rs 2.40 lakh. This amount should be paid to Rajesh’s family. Both the accused are to serve life imprisonment following serving 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. The court stated that the accused had committed a heinous act and that such a punishment was not given only because guidelines for death penalty had been introduced.
Last day, the court had ruled that Muhammad Salih and Appunni were guilty. The defendants were charged with murder, destruction of evidence, trespassing and grievous bodily harm. The court had earlier acquitted four to 12 accused. Abdul Sattar, a native of Ochira and a Qatari businessman, who is the first accused in the case and who issued a citation for the murder, has not been caught.
