‘Life cut short’: Famous actor Abid Kashmiri passed away

His son Abdul Rahim told Independent Urdu that his father fell ill two days ago and fell unconscious on Friday, after which he was taken to the hospital where it was found that he had died of a heart attack.

His fellow actors have described his death as an irreparable loss to the showbiz industry and Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has expressed her grief and sympathy to the bereaved family.

He was born on May 4, 1950 in Inner Lahore and received his primary education from here. After that he acted in hundreds of PTV and private dramas, theater and films. He continued to play mostly comedic roles.

Rashid Mehmood said that Abid Kashmiri got fame from a PTV drama, in which he was named Galu Badshah. Everyone in the entire industry affectionately called him ‘Glu Badshah’. This name probably suited his personality.

According to Rashid Mahmood: ‘He was a very compassionate, considerate person, happy in the happiness of others and depressed in sadness.’

He added: ‘I worked with him in quite a few plays. They have become a part of our lives. Everyone loved him very much. He was a great inspiration to young actors. Their lack will never be fulfilled in the showbiz industry.’

Some time ago Abid Kashmiri said during an interview on a private TV channel that he has no doubt about his life, but he feels sad when the youth who learn from him do not work hard. The happiest moment he said was the birth of his grandson.

According to Abid Kashmiri’s son, his funeral prayers will be offered in Lahore on Friday evening.
