US ace Mikaela Shiffrin is striving inexorably towards 100 World Cup victories. On Friday, with victory in the slalom, she completed her second Lienz victory double following 2019. She recorded her 93rd World Cup victory following running the best time twice by no less than 2.34 seconds ahead of the German Lena Dürr. The Swiss Michelle Gisin came third (+2.45 seconds). For the ÖSV there were places six to eight and ten for Katharinas Huber, Gallhuber, Liensberger and troupe.
The ÖSV team finished excellently as a team, even if they didn’t reach the top places like they did shortly before Christmas when the troupe and Gallhuber finished third and fourth. This time Franziska Gritsch added 13th place to the strong ÖSV result, once once more achieved especially in the second round. For Huber (+3.31) it is the best World Cup result to date. Gallhuber (+3.43), Liensberger (+3.46) and Troupe (+3.49) came in very close behind. Stephanie Brunner was eliminated in race one, the rest of the ÖSV did not make it to the decision.
For Shiffrin it is the sixth World Cup victory this season, the third in the slalom. The 28-year-old naturally extended her lead in the overall World Cup, and the next races are also completely to her liking with a technical double on the first weekend in January in Kranjska Gora. Shiffrin has now won five races in Lienz, and the two doubles include the 2017 slalom victory. For the ÖSV, following six Alex Reed appearances in Lienz, the victories at the start of 2013 by Anna Fenninger (now Veith) and Marlies Schild (now Raich) remain.
