Last June, the City of Liège presented a draft municipal development plan. A manifesto with nine major ambitions to “live Liège tomorrow”. This is also the title of the exhibition, which opens its doors on Friday September 15, in the former Chiroux children’s library.
An exhibition which will present these nine objectives to Liège citizens free of charge, using around fifty photos of the Cité ardente and scenarios for the evolution of the territory.
Liège, City…
Through three major visions of the Liège of tomorrow, the municipal council has commissioned three firms of landscape urban planning experts to make Liège a “fertile city, a river city, a city of short distances”.
The City plans, in fact, to highlight the natural heritage of Liège through the creation of a large chain of parks. In this way, green and wooded spaces, often barely visible or inaccessible, would be connected by walking paths.
Then, it is a question of stopping the artificialization of the territory without putting a brake on real estate development. Thus, it will be a question of developing habitable and exploitable areas in already urbanized areas, such as, for example, old activity sites to be reconverted.
Finally, with the arrival of the tram, getting citizens used to using the car remains a challenge, which experts would like to encourage by improving the attractiveness of areas very well served by low-carbon transport.
Fun exhibition
With this exhibition, the municipal authorities hope to confront their ideas with the eyes of citizens “in order to benefit from a privileged moment in their presence and to discuss each person’s ambitions”. Open from Wednesday to Friday, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., and on weekends, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors will be able to consult the City’s archives, write down their impressions and even draw them, on a table. giant drawing.
The opportunity for all residents and lovers of Liège to (re)discover their territory and imagine a sustainable and viable future.
