Liège Resident’s Bicycle Rebellion Leads to Legal Consequences

Was it the “Tour de Lombardie” on Saturday or the “Paris-Tours” on this Sunday that made a Liège resident born in 1981 want to cycle at all costs? Saturday followingnoon, the forty-year-old estimated that he might easily cross the Saint-Lambert shopping mall while remaining in the saddle.

Rather than getting off his bike and pushing it gently, he preferred to push through the crowd. Bad luck for him, the Liège police were present and the forty-year-old was taken out of the race. Which he obviously didn’t appreciate very much since instead of keeping a low profile, he put himself in a state of rebellion.

Under these conditions, the simple remonstrance of the police turned into deprivation of liberty, on the order of the magistrate. The investigators then went through his legal “record” to learn that it was already quite extensive. The Liégeois has, in fact, already been condemned several times by the courts for various reasons.

Sunday morning, following a night spent in cell, the suspect was brought to the Liège courthouse where he was received by the magistrate on duty. Before the latter, the suspect presented an apology which seemed sincere but his background did not work in his favor. The suspect will therefore appear, once once more, before the Liège criminal court in the context, this time, of a rebellion.
