A major fire broke out in the former Bavarian hospital, in Liège, around 7:20 p.m. this Sunday. Several witnesses pressed our orange Alert Us button.
Contacted by us, the Liège police spokesperson specified that the fire “declared himself in the left wing of the old abandoned building of the Bavarian hospital. Firefighters are working to extinguish it. To allow firefighters’ vehicles to intervene, rue des Bonnes Villes and part of boulevard de la Constitution are temporarily closed and traffic is diverted to other roads in the district.“.
The firefighters were able to intervene very quickly, their barracks being located less than 200 meters from the fire. According to the Liège police zone, the fire was under control this Sunday around 8:20 p.m. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
The former Bavarian hospital, whose facade is listed, had been abandoned for several years, but continued to be occupied by squatters. Another fire had already ravaged the right wing of the old hospital in 2017.
