The Libyan Presidential Council to intensify border security with neighboring countries

The Libyan Presidential Council stressed the need to intensify efforts to secure the borders as “national security,” during this stage that “neighboring countries” are experiencing.

Musa Al-Koni, a member of the Presidential Council, in his capacity as the Supreme Commander of the Libyan Army, stressed in a meeting on Sunday with the Commander of the “Border Guards” Nouri Sharata, the importance of the work carried out by members of the Guard “to prevent violations that threaten national security, and its contribution to the security and stability of Libya.”

The presidential office reported that it was agreed to “support the border guards, and overcome the difficulties that hinder their work, in coordination with the Ministry of Defense, and to emphasize cooperation with the countries that preceded Libya in this regard, to benefit from their experience in the field of border guards, and to secure them to ensure the stability of the country.”

He explained that Nouri reviewed the efforts made to secure the borders, combat smuggling, organized crime, and reduce illegal immigration, in addition to “the problems and difficulties that hinder the work of the border guards, represented by the length of the border strip, which requires advanced logistical capabilities and qualified human elements, enabling it to perform its duties.” The tasks assigned to him.”

Meanwhile, the head of the Libyan Supreme Council of State, Mohamed Takala, began a surprise visit to the United States on Sunday, his first since assuming office last August.

No official statement was issued by Takala or his council regarding the nature of his visit to America, but members of the council told local media that he “heads a delegation that includes 3 members of the council at the invitation of the American authorities, to hold political meetings there.”

Ibrahim Sahad, a member of the Supreme Council of State, said that the visit aims to meet with some members of Congress and the Senate, pointing out that Takala will also meet with a number of research institutions interested in Middle East issues.

On the other hand, local media revealed that Washington “did not extend any official invitation to Takala,” noting that the visit “was arranged by an American public relations company, to coordinate a meeting between Takala and some advisors to members of the US Congress.” There was no official comment from the US Embassy regarding this visit.

In a different matter, Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, head of the interim “unity” government, stressed, during his meeting on Sunday, with the Murzuq municipality follow-up committee for the reconstruction of the municipality, the necessity of the “General Electricity Company” directly implementing the targeted works in the city and supporting the management council in the urgent projects that were listed.

Al-Dabaiba noted the importance of cooperation with the American and United Nations development organizations in implementing joint programs and ensuring that people return to their homes according to a specific time frame.

Al-Dabaiba announced on Saturday evening that he had instructed the Ministry of Local Government to pay attention to cleaning the paths of valleys in all municipalities before the onset of winter, and to prepare a periodic plan for these works due to their importance.

Al-Dabaiba inspected the municipalities of Al-Qarabulli and Qasr Al-Akhyar, to check on the work of cleaning the valley paths, which is supervised by the Public Services Company in Tripoli and Misrata. He also inspected the cleaning of the Wadi Masid path in Al-Qarabulli, which is 24 kilometers long, and begins from the Al-Abanat locality in the municipality of Tarhuna and ends at the seashore, which is closed. Of all bridges due to neglect.

He explained that the official of the Tripoli Public Services Company informed him of the work carried out in cleaning the paths in the Al-Majinin, Al-Sharqi, Al-Kharoor, and Wadi Al-Rabi’ valleys, which have not been cleaned for many years and are considered a cause of floods.

He also inspected the maintenance and development of the coastal road, and listened to technical reports from project managers and implementing companies, and the difficulties facing the project’s progress according to the approved timetable.

Al-Dabaiba also directed the Housing and Utilities Projects Implementation Agency to begin work on implementing the approved bridges, which will contribute to facilitating movement on the coastal road.

He quoted the people of the municipality of Al-Khoms whom he met, in the presence of its municipal council, as praising the efforts of the unity government in its interest in the coastal road, which has not undergone any maintenance since its construction, and is considered one of the roads where accidents occur the most, according to traffic statistics, due to its deterioration.

The “National Unity” government platform republished a meeting held by the Minister of Economy and Trade, Muhammad Al-Hawaij, with the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Alberini, which it said aimed to discuss aspects of cooperation in the fields of economy and investment and the mechanism of networking between business owners in both countries.

In the meeting, Al-Hawaij stressed the importance of activating the provisions of the Treaty of Friendship and Partnership concluded between the two countries in 2008, and resuming work on infrastructure projects contracted with Italian companies, the most important of which is the international road linking (Amsaad – Ras Jedir).
