The head of the Libyan National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid al-Dabaiba, confirmed the formation of a committee to follow up the situation of Hannibal Gaddafi, son of the late Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi, who has been imprisoned in Lebanon for years, stressing that his government is following up on the conditions of any Libyan prisoner outside the country.

In a video clip posted on the “Tik Tok” platform, Al-Dabaiba indicated that he made a phone call to the Lebanese Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, during which he discussed with him the Hannibal case, explaining that Gaddafi’s son is not detained by the Lebanese government.

Al-Dabaiba confirmed in his speech that the Libyan committee will travel to Lebanon to follow up on the case, and said: “Hannibal is not an ordinary person, but the son of Muammar Gaddafi, and whoever has any opinion or accusation is directed to the Libyan judiciary.”

For his part, Mikati denied receiving any phone call from any Libyan party, and a statement by Mikati’s media office stated that “the media office is interested in making it clear that President Mikati did not receive any call from any Libyan party, and that Mr. Gaddafi’s file is in the hands of the competent judiciary, and any A follow-up to this file is carried out through the competent judicial methods. The President also expresses Lebanon’s keenness on the best relations with the Libyan people.

On Thursday, Libyan media circulated a decision signed on behalf of the Presidential Council to form a committee headed by the Minister of Justice of the Government of National Unity, Halima Ibrahim, to follow up on the Hannibal Gaddafi file in Lebanon.

And while the platforms affiliated with the Presidential Council did not publish the decision, the text reported by Libyan media indicated that among the tasks of the committee is to communicate with the Lebanese authorities to ensure the provision of humanitarian conditions for Gaddafi’s son, and to coordinate with international organizations to ensure the commitment of the Lebanese authorities to provide a fair and impartial trial, and to guarantee all legal rights. in litigation.

Since last Saturday, Hannibal has been on hunger strike inside his prison in Lebanon, to protest his continued detention without his file being referred to trial or a decision on his status.

Hannibal has been arrested in Lebanon since 2015 on charges of concealing information related to the disappearance of Imam Musa al-Sadr, who went missing in Libya in 1978.
