The MR at the City of Brussels deplores the lack of “real consultation” with residents, as has been the case since the start of the application of Good Move.

The MR City of Brussels announced on Monday his opposition to the Good Move plan in Haren. This plan, which has not yet been implemented, was presented a few days ago by the city authorities. On the menu, making local roads one-way, reorganizing parking areas and securing areas around schools.

On the sidelines of the municipal council meeting, the leader of the liberal group David Weytsman indicated the main reasons for the liberals’ opposition: no “real consultationas has been the case since start of the application of the Good Move strategywith the Harenois, traders, businesses and neighboring communities”; a discouragement of transit traffic through Haren, wanting to impose very important detour routes; and an central square of the district practically inaccessible to motorists.

“Many independent trades no longer want to come to Brussels City, because they believe it is too complicated.”

Liberal elected officials are asking the PS-Ecolo-DéFI majority that the next planned meetings make it possible to actually modify this plan, that at least half of the population be consulted and that consultation takes place with neighboring impacted municipalities.

Expensive communication

Furthermore, the MR deplored an expense of 176,000 euros in communication to “extol the merits of the Good Move plan” in the Pentagon, while, according to him, there are many problems. “Less traffic is good. But many independent trades no longer want to come to Brussels City, because they believe that it is too complicated, that parking is not easy and much too expensive. This money might clearly have been used for campaigns useful to people harmed by the plan, such as these trades, or to praise the quality of the boutiques or stores which suffer from Good Move”, commented David Weytsman on this subject.

During the council meeting, he was joined by independent advisor Mourad Maimouni who attacked the college for the absence, more than a year later, of an evaluation of this plan despite being promised for last summer. .
