Having a lot, wanting more, it’s never the right time to think regarding being satisfied anyway. Liam Gallagher has recorded a song with Stone Roses guitarist John Squire. Shortly before Christmas 2023, they created a little hype themselves, used the stupid word “supergroup” and what not. The joy is of course great.
- All songs for Sunday on FM4
- The esteemed science and pop journalists Thomas Kramar and Heide Rampetzreiter also make an appearance in the Press on Sunday their thoughts on the same song.
The first song is here, an album is coming too. It will be “the best album since The Beatles’ “Revolver”, what else is a Gallagher brother supposed to say? But you don’t even have to start searching your brain for Beatles references with this new, first song “Another Rainbow”, you can just stick with Oasis, even if they learned everything from McCartney & Co back then. Anyone who has released a band catalog into the world over the last 30 years that contains big, very big and huge songs no longer needs to look back. It’s not a “Champagne Supernova” reference (that would be nice, John Squire once accompanied Oasis live on guitar on this very song), it’s of course “Who Feels Love”.
Musically, it’s not the madness we’ve been hoping for, but it’s still nice. As always, it’s the voice and the delivery, and then the aforementioned always wanting a little more. “I might have known / this would be / just another rainbow”: Complaining regarding things that others actually think are great, complaining regarding things that people perceive as so beautiful that when they appear, the feeds are full of colorful photos . Complaining regarding things that don’t give you what they promise: why not.
At the end there is no pot of gold waiting (and Liam Gallagher has seen many of them), in the end it just keeps going, everything always full of despair of expectations. “Just another rainbow” is almost a little meta-story of a long music career that never stopped. You don’t want to, you have to – but above all you have to prove it to yourself and the world once more and once more.
And while we’re on the subject of proof: the day before the release of the song under discussion, the second best Gallagher brother, Noel, released a song called “In a little while”. Actually just a demo version, but the main thing is to get it out the day before the music headlines are populated with other, annoying family members. Actually, another nice song for Sunday, but that’s another story.
