Shye Captures Second Place on Season 23 Finale of “The Voice”

Singer Shye, a talented vocalist who rose to fame on Season 23 of NBC’s The Voice, secured a remarkable second-place finish during last night’s highly anticipated finale.

Fellow Team Michael Bublé member, Sofronio Vasquez, was crowned the season’s winner. Shye, expressing her joy on Instagram Stories shortly after the announcement, wrote “Congrats @sofroniovasquez I love you winnaaaaa” and in a follow up post added, “Y’all I … wanted 2nd place so bad. I am so … happy right now you don’t even understand.”

Rounding Out the Top Five

Rounding out the Top 5 were Sydney Sterlace, representing Team Gwen Stefani (third place), Danny Joseph from Team Reba McEntire (fourth place), and Jeremy Beloate, a member of Team Snoop Dogg who finished in fifth place.

Shye’s impressive journey began with her memorable blind audition on October 8, where her rendition of “Superman (It’s Not Easy)” earned her a coveted four-chair turn from the esteemed coaching panel.

A Standout Vocalist Emerges

Throughout the competition, Shye’s powerful vocals and captivating stage presence captivated viewers. During the two-night finale, she delivered moving performances of Joan Osborne’s “One of Us” and Harry Styles’ “Falling” on night one, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

On final night, Shye joined forces with her mentor, Michael Bublé, for a heartfelt rendition of C. Carson Parks’ classic “Somethin’ Stupid,” a timeless duet previously popularized by Frank Sinatra and his daughter, Nancy Sinatra.

“I always thought it was such a sweet thing watching [the father and daughter] sing it together,” Bublé shared, explaining his choice. “And I just thought that I could just be connected with you on something that’s so sweet.”

A Look Ahead

Before the winner was declared, Bublé shared words of encouragement and confidence with Shye. “These are not the last words. No matter what happens, these are just one of the many words that you and I are going to share going into a future together while I watch you make beautiful music,” he said. “You have something so special. And I couldn’t be happier for you in this moment.”

Shye’s musical journey began long before her time on “The Voice.” Born Madison Roberts, she honed her talents early on. She attended Landing Elementary School, Robert Finley Middle School, and Glen Cove High School, where she excelled in singing and performed in various musicals, including productions of “In the Heights” and “Miss Saigon.” During her senior year, Shye transferred to the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, after her family relocated, and graduated this year.

Shye’s impressive vocal skills were recognized on multiple occasions. She was named to the Nassau Music Educators Association’s roster of All-County musicians for several years and in 2022, she won the Hauppauge-based LGBT Network’s annual LGBT Got Big Talent competition, further solidifying her status as a rising star in the music industry.
