[New Tang Dynasty News, Beijing time, July 14, 2023]China’s economy has encountered a severe winter. Li Qiang, Premier of the Communist Party of China, saw that the “street-street economy” would not work, so in desperation he turned to platform companies to “ask for help” and asked them to play the role of “saving the economy”.

On the followingnoon of July 12, Li Qiang, Premier of the Communist Party of China, presided over the first “platform enterprise” symposium. The heads of companies such as Alibaba Cloud, Meituan, and Douyin all attended the meeting and spoke; JD.com, Pinduoduo, etc. submitted written speeches.

At the meeting, Li Qiang praised the positive role of the platform economy in “expanding demand” and “employment and entrepreneurship”, and asked them to “work hard” so that they can shine in saving the economy. On the same day, the National Development and Reform Commission of the Communist Party of China specifically named Tencent, Alibaba, and Meituan for their so-called important contributions to technological innovation.

However, just a few days ago, on July 7, Tencent’s Tenpay and Ali’s Ant Group and their affiliates were fined a total of more than 10.1 billion yuan.

The CCP’s practice of suppressing and praising at the same time is considered by the outside world as “the authorities have exhausted their calculations.”

Wang He, an expert on China issues: “It means that the rectification of these platforms has come to an end for the time being. Li Qiang then held a meeting on this platform, which shows that the current economic situation in China is very tense. The CCP has almost run out of bargaining chips. They have no choice but to Don’t use this platform economy as a lifeline.”

Since 2020, the authorities have used the name of anti-monopoly to severely suppress platform companies such as Alibaba, Ant Group, Tencent, and Meituan. Statistics show that the crackdown has wiped out US$1.1 trillion in the market value of Internet companies.

Taiwanese economic expert Huang Shicong: “I think the suppression of these Internet giants was partly for the so-called political stability, including the reorganization of the group like Alibaba, and many companies have also let the Communist Party take shares, or Take control.”

Huang Shicong said that in the eyes of the CCP authorities, now that the first stage of “cutting leeks” has been completed, Beijing naturally hopes that these enterprises can continue to shoulder the important task of China’s economic development.

Huang Shicong: “(The problem is) the central government often fines him, and then there may be policy instability, and he doesn’t know how your policy will go next. (In addition) the current environment in China and the United States is so bad, it is very difficult for private enterprises In other words, it can’t afford to invest heavily.”

Since Li Qiang, Premier of the Communist Party of China, took office, he has faced severe economic difficulties. From revisiting Li Keqiang’s “street stall economy”, to inviting Ma Yun back to China, to holding this platform meeting, Li Qiang seems to have tried his best, but with little success.

Economist Li Hengqing: “So far, we have not seen a big move. Why? In fact, the various policies that can be used now are almost exhausted.”

Li Hengqing pointed out that today’s Chinese economy is “pressing the gourd and picking up the ladle”, with problems one following another. From debt, real estate, local debt, to exports following the recession, plus employment, divestment, foreign exchange – these problems are all superimposed, and they are getting worse and more difficult.

Li Hengqing: “Now Xi Jinping’s basic strategy is to completely return to the era of the Cultural Revolution.”

Wang He said that before the CCP praised the platform companies this time, it first imposed heavy penalties on dismounting them, in order to show that it is “easy to handle” them and give itself a step down. But the more the CCP engages in these conspiracies and tricks, the more people hate him.

Wang He: “The Chinese Communist Party is not good at economics. It is manipulating people and engaging in conspiracies and tricks. That is one thing. However, the current situation of the Chinese economy, this mess, will eventually abandon all the conspiracies and tricks of the CCP. The deterioration of the economic situation has accelerated the disintegration of the CCP and the CCP’s downfall.”
