LH Mikl-Leitner: “Child and holiday care as an important building block for the compatibility of family and work”

Financial and organizational cooperation between the state and municipalities also beyond the holiday season

St. Polten (OTS/NLK) Holiday care is currently available in more than 80 percent of the blue and yellow municipalities. An offer that is gratefully accepted by children and parents in Lower Austria. “While our youngest are enjoying the summer to the fullest to recharge their batteries, we want to give our families the best possible support in order to keep the organizational effort for the parents as low as possible, especially during the holiday season,” says Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner. The state of Lower Austria supports the municipalities both financially and organizationally with holiday care.

In 2023, the Lower Austrian country house once more offered four-week holiday care for the children of country house employees. The additional care offer, which offered a wide-ranging program until August 4th, was well attended. Among other things, the children redesigned and painted one of the walls in the Landhaus area, took a trip to the Schallaburg and the Niedersulz museum village, made their own boats out of flotsam and tried them out on the Traisen, and visited the St. Pölten fire brigade to lend a hand there themselves.

“We are consistently expanding the range of childcare options in the state of Lower Austria in order to make family and career even better compatible, not just during the holidays, but with the blue and yellow childcare offensive beyond the summer,” says Mikl-Leitner. The pilot phase of the blue and yellow childcare offensive will start this fall. “In this way, we are enabling a massive improvement in the range of childcare services for families. The care for our youngest will thus be even better, cheaper and further expanded,” explains the governor.

There is also support for families in Lower Austria once more for the start of school in 2023. From August 16th this year, the blue and yellow school start allowance for pupils and apprentices can be applied for. This is a one-off financial support of EUR 100 for families in Lower Austria. Recipients of family allowance are entitled. The application is submitted online on the website of the State of Lower Austria: www.noe.gv.at.
