“Renewed social democracy is burning to improve workers’ lives!” “Renewed social democracy is burning to improve workers’ lives!”
Eisenstadt (OTS) – “A renewed social democracy is burning once more to improve the lives of working people in Austria – on May 1st and on all other days of the year,” says Burgenland’s LH Hans Peter Doskozil on “Labour Day” and reaffirms his most important political goals: nationwide minimum wage of 2,000 euros net, lower taxes on work, affordable housing, energetic fight once morest inflation and once morest two-class medicine. Doskozil has been attending a total of five May Day celebrations in Burgenland since yesterday and is impressed by the mobilizing power of the SPÖ throughout Austria: “I would like to thank the many officials, those of the older generation as well as the young, who together stand for a powerful future of social democracy. “
Above all, the minimum wage is a core concern of social democracy, which must be tackled together with the unions, according to the governor: “It is shameful when work in a rich country like Austria is not worth at least 12 euros an hour. We must allow ourselves to be measured by the implementation of the minimum wage. Women in particular benefit, as the pension and wage gap is reduced as a result.” In Burgenland, it has already been shown that the minimum wage can be achieved. “Credible social-democratic politics means not handing out alms, but making sure that people can live well and securely from their work and pensions once more,” emphasizes Doskozil.
The SPÖ must also be the tax-cutting party for the working population, the LH demands: “The tax burden should finally be distributed fairly: we must ensure that labor income is taxed less than capital income without performance. Performance must be worthwhile – this applies to employees, but also to pensioners who have worked hard all their lives and today can hardly live on their pensions.”
Now more than ever, Doskozil needs a strong social democracy that has clear answers ready for the employees. From immediate measures once morest inflation, to a rental price brake to an energy transition with social responsibility: “The SPÖ must fight for those who cannot do it themselves and have been criminally let down by the ÖVP-led politics in recent years. It is crucial that we do not produce the better slogans, but the better solutions. We have to regain our credibility – as a party that keeps its promises and does the right thing for the many in Austria.”
