LG unveils 97-inch M3 fully wireless OLED TV

LG is a regular exhibitor at CES, introducing new TVs and other electronics every year. This time she showed visitors a 97-inch version of the TV that does not have a single port – and it should go on sale this year.

The “world’s largest” OLED TV with a 97-inch display diagonal was shown by the manufacturer last year, but the version presented at the exhibition also turned out to be wireless. It is capable of displaying 4K images.

However, although the module with the panel itself does not have ports, it is intended to be paired with a special attachment-transmitter that can be placed close to the room. The set-top box has standard HDMI and other ports. The module at the top of the set-top box must be rotated so that its internal antenna is directed towards the TV.

The M3 TV itself doesn’t really have any ports, making it much easier to place it anywhere in the room. The only connection left is the power cable, cleverly hidden in one of the legs of the stand. However, the model can also be placed on the wall – the lack of ports simplifies this task.

LG says the transmitter can be placed up to 30 feet (regarding 10 m) from the panel itself, and the company emphasized that this technology will not harm those in the room – it is very similar to Wi-Fi used everywhere. In this case, the transmitter will not interfere with Wi-Fi and vice versa. The signal is capable of delivering resolutions up to 4K at a refresh rate of 120Hz, something LG’s wired OLED models can no longer provide. In total, the set-top box has three HDMI ports, an antenna input, two USB, Ethernet and a digital optical output, as well as a serial port.

Wireless TVs and projectors have been sold before, but they might not provide a signal of such resolution and quality. By the way, at CES another wireless model demonstrated and startup Displace, a 55-inch battery-powered OLED variant.

In addition to the 97-inch wireless OLED model, the company also showed other series, with traditional cable connection. It is known that in addition to the 97-inch version, LG will release panels with 83- and 77-inch displays in the M3 series. Prices will be announced later, but new items are unlikely to be cheap. For example, LG’s standard 97-inch OLED TV costs $25,000, according to CNET.
