Ochang plant will expand to 50% by 2022
100% achievement of Nanjing Battery Plants 1 and 2 in China
LG Energy Solution is speeding up the RE100 conversion (100% renewable electricity conversion).
On the 24th, LG Energy Solution announced that it had purchased a 23GWh wind power and solar power ‘renewable energy supply certificate (REC)’ from Jeju Energy Corporation, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, and Jeju Dongbok Village to expand the application of renewable energy at the Ochang Plant in North Chungcheong Province. .
The conversion rate of renewable energy at the Ochang Plant will more than triple from 16% last year to 50% this year through this REC purchase.
RE100 is an international campaign with the goal of providing 100% of the electricity used by companies with renewable energy such as wind and solar power by 2050.
After joining RE100 for the first time among domestic battery makers in April of last year, LG Energy Solutions has been rapidly increasing the conversion rate of renewable energy in its production plants, headquarters and research centers around the world. In the case of electric vehicle battery plants 1 and 2 in Nanjing, China, the conversion rate of renewable energy will expand to 100% within this year.
The Polish plant in Europe and the Michigan plant in the US have already achieved the RE100 target early in 2019 and 2020, respectively. LG Energy Solution expects to be able to increase the conversion rate of renewable energy in all production plants around the world to more than 60% this year.
Vice Chairman Kwon Young-soo of LG Energy Solutions said, “The need for RE100 conversion is increasing due to the expansion of renewable energy investment and the growing demand from customers and investors to respond to climate change. It will be,” he said.
