Lewis Hamilton, one of Formula 1’s most celebrated drivers, has officially begun his journey with scuderia Ferrari, marking a monumental shift in his illustrious career.”I’ve been lucky enough to have achieved things in my career I never thought possible, but part of me has always held on to that dream of racing in red. I couldn’t be happier to realise that dream today,” Hamilton shared, encapsulating the excitement surrounding this new chapter.
Hamilton’s first day at Ferrari was a whirlwind of introductions and immersion. According to Ferrari, “The work continues tomorrow with more technical meetings and briefings as preparations get underway for what will be a very busy season.”
Hamilton’s transition to Ferrari isn’t just a symbolic shift; it’s a technical challenge as well.For the first time in his 18-year F1 career, he’ll be driving a car without a Mercedes engine. This week,he’s expected to test the 2023 Ferrari at the Fiorano track,followed by additional sessions in Barcelona. Plans are also in place for him to experience the 2025 car in Ferrari’s simulator. As per F1 regulations, the 2023 model is the most recent car Hamilton is allowed to drive outside of official testing.
The official pre-season testing is set to take place in Bahrain from February 26-28, where Hamilton and his teammate Charles Leclerc will split the track time equally.Vasseur acknowledged the steep learning curve Hamilton faces,stating at Ferrari’s Christmas lunch,”It is not easy but he is coming with his own experience. But he is not the rookie of the year, I am not worried at all about this.”
To ease his transition, Hamilton will establish a residence in Italy, embracing his role as part of what many consider the nation’s team. The partnership between Hamilton and ferrari will be on full display at the F1 launch event at London’s O2 Arena on February 18, followed by the unveiling of the 2025 Ferrari car in Italy the next day.
