Mercedes racer Lewis Hamilton admitted that he was disappointed with the performance of the W15 car he was riding when competing in the United States (US) GP, which was held at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), Austin, Texas, Monday (21/10) WIB.

Starting the race from 17th position, the seven-time world champion was unable to finish the main race (DNF) after slipping on Lap 3.

This is Hamilton’s first DNF after last experiencing it at the Australian GP, last March.

“My start was good, able to climb to 12th position on the second lap. I was just trying to control the tires, but the car started to shake, losing
“all the weight was on the back and it turned straight towards me,” said Hamilton, quoted from the official Formula 1 website.

The British racer explained that when he tried to enter Turn 19, he lost control of the rear of the car and could not do much to prevent something bad from happening.

The safety car came out to neutralize the track and allow Hamilton’s Mercedes to be moved.

He also considered this incident to be very similar to what his teammate, George Russell, experienced during the United States Grand Prix qualifying session the day before.

“I’ve never experienced (a turnaround) like this before. If I have, it’s probably only once in all the years (I became
a racer),” said Hamilton.

“It’s frustrating for sure, but I know it’s not because I’m not focused or anything, it’s just because I’m unlucky,” he added.

Mercedes left Austin with 15 points from the Sprint and Grand Prix, making it the team’s lowest points total since the Dutch GP at Zandvoort.

The British factory team is now 152 points behind Ferrari in the constructors’ standings this season. (Ant/Z-1)
