Mercedes team racer Lewis Hamilotn admits that his team needs to improve the speed performance of the W15 car if they want to maximize it at the Miami GP, which will be held at the Miami International Autodrome, Florida, United States, 3-5 May.

This belief stems from the fact that Hamilton experienced such a large drop in speed, who previously stood on the podium in Sprint qualifying and the Sprint race, was knocked out at the start of qualifying and could only finish P9 with a time difference of more than 57 seconds from the Chinese GP champion, Max Verstappen.

“Hopefully we will make progress in the next race,” Hamilton told the Formula 1 website, Tuesday (23/4).

“Until then, we will be back at the factory this week, trying to position the car a little better for Miami, in the hope of getting a better weekend result as well,” he continued.

The 2019 Chinese GP champion admitted that the weekend at the Shanghai International Circuit was full of dynamics. After maintaining good performance in Sprint qualifying and the Sprint race, he instead started the main race from P18 before being able to enter the top 10 list for the 2024 Chinese GP.

During the main race, Hamilton revealed that the condition of the tires he was using was not optimal and affected the speed of his car so that it became very slow.

“I thought maybe I had damaged something like some of the other (riders), because debris was everywhere at one point, but it turned out to be just (the result of) the settings I chose,” said the seven-time world champion.

Teammate George Russell said that there was ‘not much more to offer Mercedes’ when racing at the Shanghai International Circuit last weekend.

“Starting from P8 and progressing a few positions, that’s what we expected, considering the performance we’ve shown (so far),” said Russell, who finished the Chinese GP in sixth position. (Ant/Z-1)
