Another attack on the Italian bases of the Unifil mission in southern Lebanon by the Israeli army. The attack took place on base 1-31 – already hit in recent days. According to what transpires, two walls demarcating the base have been demolished. Not only that. This morning the IDF fired on a UNIFIL observation post at its main base in Naqoura, southern Lebanon, wounding two people. The Times of Israel reports it citing United Nations sources. According to what was reported by the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, close to Hezbollah, they were two Sri Lankan soldiers. One of them would have been seriously injured. The IDF announced that it had received “reports of damage” to a UNIFIL outpost and the wounding of two soldiers. The incident “is under investigation and its details are being examined”, the IDF said. The episode follows yesterday’s attacks which provoked a firm reaction from the Italian government. “The Italian military will not abandon the base” as requested by Israel, reiterated the Italian Unifil contingent.

In the Israeli attacks against the Unifil bases “there are no Italian soldiers injured, they are in any case safe”, confirmed the Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, on the sidelines of a meeting in Turin. “We continue to send clear messages to the Government of Israel that Italian soldiers do not touch each other – said the deputy prime minister – our soldiers are not Hezbollah militants but are those who have always guaranteed, with great respect for the rules, working for peace, a a situation that would also allow the Israeli civilian population to be protected.” Tajani added: “They did their duty. We are close to our military, we are following minute by minute what is happening.”
