Let’s fight against dengue fever!

During this summer period, the prefecture and the Regional Health Agency of Reunion Island remind you of the importance of fighting dengue fever by applying the following preventive measures: removing mosquito breeding sites (anything that may contain water ), protect yourself from mosquito bites (repellents, mosquito nets, etc.) and consult your doctor at the first symptoms.

Dengue fever can be dangerous and can lead to hospitalizations and even death.

Prevention is better than cure ! Take the right steps …

Use repellents

It is one of the safest measures to combat the spread of dengue. These skin repellants are to be applied to all uncovered parts of the body, during outdoor activities, especially in the morning and evening, the periods of strongest mosquito activity.

The duration of protection varies from 4 to 8 hours. Specific products are reserved for children and pregnant women. Your pharmacist can advise you on the use of repellents and individual protection measures.

Eliminate stagnant water from mosquito breeding grounds in your home

Mosquitoes lay eggs in stagnant water (even small ones) which become breeding sites (mosquito nests). By removing all these roosts, you keep mosquitoes away from your home or workplace.

Install mosquito nets around beds / cribs and on windows / doors

The bed mosquito net constitutes an effective barrier for people forced to be bedridden during the day, especially newborns.

Mosquito nets can also be placed on windows and doors for better protection inside homes during periods of mosquito aggression (morning and evening).

See your doctor at the first symptoms

In the event of symptoms (fever, headache, sudden onset of fever, muscle and / or joint pain, nausea, vomiting or fatigue), consult your doctor quickly. He will refer you to a medical laboratory for confirmation of the diagnosis of dengue fever.

In case of deterioration of the state of health, go to the hospital.
