Let’s build dreams together! 16 universities from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao held friendly basketball matches in Zhuhai

From October 5th to 6th, young students from 8 universities in Guangdong Province and 8 universities in Hong Kong and Macao gathered at the Zhuhai Campus of Beijing Normal University to hold the “Building Dreams Together Cup” Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao University College Students Basketball Friendly Tournament, an event that young people love to see. In the form of gifts to the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the 27th anniversary of the return of Hong Kong, and the 25th anniversary of the return of Macao. More than 220 teachers and students from universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao who participated in the competition worked together, learned from each other and deepened their friendship, expressing their best wishes for the prosperity of our great motherland and the steady and long-term development of the cause of “one country, two systems”.
It is reported that this competition is guided by the Education and Science and Technology Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong, the Education and Youth Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macau, and the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education. It is hosted by Beijing Normal University and co-organized by the Zhuhai Municipal Education Bureau and the Zhuhai Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League. Beijing Normal University, Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology, South China Normal University, Shenzhen University, Beijing Institute of Technology Zhuhai Campus, Harbin Institute of Technology Shenzhen Campus, Jinan University Zhuhai Campus, as well as the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, and Hong Kong Baptist Universities such as the University of Macau, the University of Macau, City University of Macau, Macau University of Science and Technology, and Macau Polytechnic University respectively selected men’s and women’s basketball teams to participate.
During the event, Shao Ting, the former captain of the Chinese women’s basketball team, Li Sunan, coach of the Chinese women’s basketball team that won the championship at the 2023 Chengdu Universiade, team member Zhang Jingyi, team member Liu Yutong and other basketball stars came to the scene to interact with participating college students. They interact actively. Li Sunan, Zhang Jingyi, and Liu Yutong shared touching stories of winning the competition and bringing glory to the country to the participating college students. They encouraged everyone to keep in mind the mission of youth, be brave enough to pursue their dreams, and actively strive for Chinese-style modernization and the “Second Centenary Goal.” The dream of rejuvenating a strong country remains true to our responsibilities. Shao Ting, Zhang Jingyi, and Liu Yutong conducted open basketball classes on site, teaching basic movements, techniques and tactics to participating college students.
In addition, the Beijing Normal University women’s basketball team, which has won the China University Basketball Association (CUBA) national championship for many times, held exchange games with athlete representatives from other brother universities, further deepening the interaction and friendship between mainland students and young people from Hong Kong and Macao.
