Less content, but twice as expensive: This is the “cheat pack of the month”

The consumer advice center has once once more chosen the “deceptive package of the month”. The currently affected product now costs twice as much, although the content has been halved.

In the Consumer Center Hamburg the popular cracker brand Tuc, formerly 7days, was voted “Sham Pack of the Month” for the past month. The bake rolls from the food company Mondelez International are now twice as expensive in the new packaging, even though the contents have actually shrunk.

The Mondelez brand previously only cost 1.39 euros in a 250 gram bag. At food giant Rewe, the Tuc Bake Rolls are now available for EUR 1.89 with a content of just 150 grams – a price increase of a whopping 127 percent. That’s why the snack item has now been voted “deceptive pack of the month” by the consumer advice center.

There have been many complaints from consumers that the popular bread crisp brand 7days Bake Rolls has now been replaced by Tuc Bake Rolls. Apart from differences in price and filling quantity, nothing has changed in the list of ingredients: the ingredients have been adopted one-to-one in the varieties sea salt, garlic, onions and tomato & olive.

Other varieties such as Pizza and Sour Cream & Onion are no longer available in the normal size as with 7days, but only in mini packs. Only the salt content should probably be a little lower in the new packaging. Both Rewe and Mondelez did not want to comment specifically on the allegations in statements to VZ. It was only pointed out that the products are now bundled under the Tuc brand.
