Lucrative tournament as the 2024 PGA Tour Players Championship.

The 2024 Players Championship remains the most lucrative tournament on the PGA Tour as its 50th edition takes place at TPC Sawgrass. Considered the fifth unofficial major in golf, the event has significantly increased its prize money since its debut.

The first winner, Jack Nicklaus, won a $250,000 prize during the inaugural edition in 1974, a fifth of the total prize pool. Since then, the purse has increased a hundredfold to $25 million, with defending champion Scottie Scheffler taking home $4.5 million the previous year. However, in 2017, when Kim Si-woo became the youngest winner in the history of the event at the age of 21, the total prize money was only $10.5 million.

Over the past few years, the stock market has seen significant growth, from $11 million in 2018 to $25 million in 2023, where it remains unchanged this year.
