At the dawn of an extremely important electoral year with four ballots divided into two elections, the parties are preparing and the political transfer window is in full swing. Thus, in recent weeks, Les Engagés have announced the arrival of well-known faces in their ranks: Olivier de Wasseige (former boss of the Walloon Business Union), Yves Coppieters (covid expert), Yvan Verougstraete (former CEO of Medi-Market) or even Jean-Jacques Cloquet (former CEO of Charleroi airport).
Profiles, even if they are not the only ones, which made the political adversaries of the Engagés react and in particular the Walloon MP Rachel Sobry (MR), who cracked a rather provocative tweet towards the party of Maxime Prévot : “You are a white man, 55 years old and you want to retrain? Look no further, Les Engagés have a head of list for you alongside Olivier de Wasseige, Yves Coppieters, Yvan Verougstraete and Jean-Jacques Cloquet to represent the society of tomorrow!”
Before concluding with a message of support addressed to Lyseline Louvigny, former MR municipal councilor in Tubize and who has also decided to join the ranks of the Engagés.
This position taken by Rachel Sobry did not fail to provoke a reaction in the ranks of the Engagés. Starting with Yvan Verougstraete, himself one of the targets of the Walloon MP’s tweet: “Thank you for this constructive comment which elevates the political debate… Perhaps reducing us to white men is reductive? Maybe we’re not even 55? Either…”
Catherine Fonck, for her part, was more virulent towards the Walloon MP and her party president Georges-Louis Bouchez: “If you were not in the MR, I believe that your president would denounce a woke tweet…”
