Stéphane, candidate of the game “Les 12 coups de midi” and one of the midday masters, revealed to suffer from “cat’s scratch disease”. He wants to raise awareness regarding this pathology.

Stéphane is the current champion of Jean-Luc Reichamnn’s game “Les 12 coups de midi”. His 152nd participation, on Thursday January 19, 2023, has already enabled him to win €567,843. This candidate from Haute-Marne has been present in the TF1 midday game since August 26, 2022.

Stéphane suffers from a rare and little-known disease: cat scratch disease. “I can’t see anything in my right eye due to a virus,” he explains in Télé Loisirs. “I contracted this disease because of a very small cat. He passed on the cat-scratch disease to me. It came to be grafted onto my optic nerve and I can no longer see anything in my right eye”.

The scientific name of this pathology is benign inoculation lymphoreticulosis. It generally occurs following being scratched by a stray cat which can infect a domestic cat before in turn contaminating human beings. It can also be transmitted following a bite or with saliva.

If this disease is treated with antibiotics (macrolides), it can more rarely cause fever, headaches or rashes. It is sometimes possible to observe conjunctivitis and very rarely serious atypical forms such as loss of use of one eye following an infection. In the vast majority of cases, cat scratch disease is mild.

The player of the “12 noon shots” intends to raise awareness regarding this disease which is still too little known.
